Product description
Oxirite smooth gloss finish is an antioxidant paint that can be applied directly to iron or steel surfaces, whether new or rusted, without the need to use any prior primer. Provides excellent protection against corrosion. Oxirite antioxidant paint is suitable for both interior and exterior use.
Oxirite antioxidant paint characteristics
- Direct application on iron and steel, without primers or lead. It is effective even directly on rusty surfaces, just by removing loose rust particles.
- Working times are extraordinarily fast. Successive coats can be applied from 1 hour, (15 minutes for the Spray format) so that jobs can be carried out in a single day that with conventional paints take much longer.
- Using Oxirite means significant savings in time and labor.
- The aesthetic result is excellent, with a thick and shiny coat appearance, in smooth and hammered.
- Very easy to apply. It is thixotropic and does not drip. Leveling and covering are excellent.
- Great hardness and resistgums to shock and abrasion.
- Lead and chromate free.
performance
With Oxirite smooth glossy anti-rust paint you can paint approximately 9 m2 per liter per coat.
Surface preparation
Before applying Oxirite antioxidant paint, surfaces must be dry, degreased and free of loose oxide and calamine. On new surfaces without roughness, it is recommended to sand before painting.
On iron and steel, it can be applied directly. It is not necessary to previously apply minium, or any primer. If the surface is already oxidized, it is not necessary to remove embedded oxidation or paint. Sanding is sufficient to remove loose rust or paint particles and mill scale (calamine).
If the surface shows areas of corrosion, it should be scratched with a metal brush or emery abrasive until all loose rust is removed. Grade St-2 (UNE-EN-ISO 12944-4).
If the surfaces are made of galvanized iron, it is advisable to previously apply Xylazel Metal Primer for Galvanized. This primer produces a chemical reaction on the surface of thegalvanized, transforming the shiny surface into a blackish surface, which allows a good adhesion of the paint.
On zinc, copper, aluminum and other metals, (also on galvanized metal), for a good adhesion the Multi-surface primer can be applied.
Oxirite antioxidant paint can even be applied to wood and plastic, seeking an aesthetic result or protection against the elements. In these cases, the surface must be dry, clean and degreased.
Drying
Oxirite antioxidant paint dries quickly, so that each coat can be applied after 1 hour of the previous one (15 minutes for the Spray format).
It is important to plan the painting so that no more than 8 hours pass between two coats. After 8 hours, the paint begins to cure, which lasts 2 weeks for the smooth, hammered, satin and smooth metallic finishes, and 24 hours for the forged finish. While the cure lasts, no more paint should be applied, as the protective layer would not form properly. For paint in Spray format and Metallic finish, it is not necessary to respect these curing times.
Application
It is important to apply at least one100 dry microns (0.1 mm) thickness of Oxirite antioxidant paint, to achieve good antioxidant protection in medium aggressive environments. This equates to 2 or 3 loaded hands, or a performance of 4.5 m² / L. In marine or highly polluted environments apply at least 130 microns.
In corners, and where water can be trapped, an additional coat is recommended. Oxirite antioxidant paint can be applied by brush, roller and spray, or in its aerosol format.
Brush application : In brush application, it should not be diluted. It should be stirred little and gently, so as not to break the thixotropic structure.
Roller application : In roller application, it is recommended to use a short-haired wool one, as other types of rollers may not be suitable. Paint the edges first, and complete the application with the roller.
